WHAT TO DO IN FUENGIROLA

Fuengirola is a well-known and well-attended tourist destination on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain. It is particularly known for its long sandy beaches and boulevard of no less than eight kilometers. But also for the cozy old town with narrow shopping streets and charming squares with countless terraces and restaurants.

On the picture below you see the castle Castillo Sohail, an old Arab castle from the time of the Moorish occupation. The castle is open and free of charge. A piece of history of Fuengirola with beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea. In the summer months many concerts with very famous bands and singers are organized here as well as several big events.

Beaches in Fuengirola
The open beaches of Fuengirola are perfect, and all have the 'blue flag' certificate. The Blue Flag is an international eco-label awarded annually to harbours and beaches that are safe and clean. It is not for nothing that the Spaniards have called the 8 kilometer long promenade 'Paseo Marítimo Rey de España', freely translated: Boulevard King of Spain. This boulevard is with 8 km also the longest beach promenade in Spain! Along the promenade you will come across countless cafes, bars, beach restaurants "Chiringuito" and of course many shops. Choice enough to find a nice place where you can enjoy the view over the Mediterranean Sea, the beaches and enjoy a Spanish tapa with Cerveza or a glass of wine.

Fuengirola has 8 sandy beaches

  1. Playa el Ejido (Playa del Castillo) is the most southwestern beach. This wide sandy beach is named after Castillo de Sohail, the Moorish castle located on the adjoining hill. In summer many concerts and other activities are organized here.
  2. Santa Amalia is the first beach beyond the Fuengirola river, the río de Fuengirola. There is a beautiful suspension bridge to connect the beaches. Along the rio de Fuengirola you can practice various sports activities.
